Ever wonder "what is my MP doing"?
In my case, is there anything worthwhile that my MP, Thierry St-Cyr, is doing?
I wrote him today, asking (in French, 'cause he's in the Bloc Quebecois): "I would just like to know what work you did last week, and what work you plan to do next week. Thank you for your time." I just got an e-mail from his secretary acknowledging receipt of my e-mail and telling me it's been forwarded to Thierry. I should hope so: I wrote it to him.
I doubt he'll answer, so I decided to visit his website.
Here's quick breakdown of what Thierry's been up to for the last month, according to his blog:
15-June
He handed in a memo to Quebec's Transportation Ministry questioning the Turcot interchange project in Montreal (if you've ever driven into Montreal from Toronto, you might be familiar with the maze of high-rise overpasses shortly after entering the city). I read a bunch of the memo, and, well, it's disappointing: he basically bashes the current plan while offering zero evidence and not much about what he thinks should be done.
22-May to 12-June
Nothing. There's a bunch of blog posts announcing things about St. Jean Baptiste day in the city of Verdun, the Montreal French Movement, and some writing and drawing contest (French only! Anglos rot in hell!).
14-May
Thierry posts a brief exchange he had in the House of Commons with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration complaining about a lack of respect for the French language.
My Conclusion
Thierry, I hate to do this to you, but I have to let you go. Pack up and leave. You've done nothing worthwhile in the last month. Your secretary has nothing better to do than to answer e-mails addressed to you with "Thank you, I have forwarded your e-mail to Thierry -- to Thierry."
Unfortunately, when you have taken the time to do something, it's been childish and rudimentary. Here's a tip: if you want the Ministry of Transporation to take your memo seriously, don't litter it with exclamation marks, and try to use at least one citation. Go back to school and learn how to write an academic paper.
Please join in and review your Canadian Member of Parliament here. What are they up to? Would you fire them or keep them on board? Do they answer your e-mails?
