Implications of decriminalization of prostitution

National Post: When an Ontario judge struck down three sections of the country's prostitution laws last month as unconstitutional, the reaction from Ottawa was very familiar to those with long memories. The Justice Minister, Rob Nicholson, declared himself "very concerned," and federal lawyers moved swiftly to salvage the law. In documents filed recently in the Ontario Court of Appeal, they argue Superior Court Justice Susan Himel made at least 19 legal errors in her ruling: "The judge erred in not acknowledging Parliament's legitimate state interest in discouraging individuals from engaging in prostitution," says Ottawa's notice of appeal.
