Great video about Barack Obama and the failure of capitalist 'democracy'
CBC: Canada Votes 2011. If you missed the leaders' debate from last night, watch it here. I thought the format was quite good, allowing for some interesting one on one exchanges between Harper and Ignatieff, Layton and Ignatieff, etc. Consensus seems to be that this was not much of a game changer; judge for yourselves.
The Globe: We’re taking on the mainstream media!” Kory Teneycke declared the other day as a dozen people from the mainstream media earnestly scribbled notes. “We’re taking on smug, condescending, often irrelevant journalism. We’re taking on political correctness. We will not be a state broadcaster offering boring news by bureaucrats, for elites, and paid for by taxpayers. We’ll be unapologetically patriotic.” The combative Mr. Teneycke is big news in media circles these days. As the front man for the new Sun TV News Channel (also known as Fox News North), he styles himself a giant-killer.
The venerable At Issue Panel, hosted by Peter Mansbridge, has its finale where the panelists are asked about the best and worst political plays of the year.
CBC: Rex Murphy annoints Gilles Duceppe parliamentarian of the month. Why? Because he was the only one to allow Auditor General Sheila Fraser to take a look at his expenses! The rest of the parties' refusal to do so is nothing short of shameful.
Gordon Brown had what seemed like a pleasant exchange with a longstanding Labour supporter while he was wearing a mic. In the exchange, the woman made mention of hordes of Eastern Europeans immigrating to Britain. Afterward, forgetting that he was still being recorded, he made reference to the woman being a bigot. It seems to me that Brown was just telling it like it is, but he is being punished for it.
The Globe: The Victoria Police Department is investigating its own officers after a violent arrest was caught on camera and posted to YouTube. Police spokesman Sgt. Grant Hamilton says officers responded to a fight involving eight males early Sunday morning. He says when police arrived on the scene, they found one man being kicked in the head and ended up taking six others into custody. But the 56-second YouTube clip appears to show one officer repeatedly kicking a man who's already been restrained.
CBC: the At Issue Panel took questions from people all over Canada. All hail Chantal Hebert.
CTV: Strong movement within the Conservative Party, both at the grassroots level and at the highest levels of the government to have the PM dump Guergis
Back to back special from Chantal Hebert and the boys, all about the budget. Too lazy to read the budget yourself? (of course you are).
